Tenacious D
Although I find Jack Black strangely alluring (I am not the only one who is attracted to this guy I found out this weekend) this movie was, well Tenacious. For one thing they, Jack Black and Kyle Gass, are really talented musicians both with how they play the guitar and their singing ability. Really, they are, I'm not kidding here. Secondly, they are totally original, which in today's re-make hysteria world is like a breath of fresh air. Thirdly, they are totally disturbing. They say the "F" word like it is part of their religious doctrine. Again, strangely, it is not really offensive the way they present it, probably because they are mostly singing it. It would not be accurate to say they drop the "F" bomb because when you are singing the "F" word it is kinda like saying darn instead of damn.
The movie resembled a musical gone wrong, way wrong, but Dave Grohl as Satan, was pretty darn cool. Excellent effects for sure. The POD (not telling what that is in case you want to see it) is a pretty funny idea really. Again, original and new, which I liked very much.
I would recommend this film at the theatre to anyone who likes Jack Black, Tenacious D, hard rock, or Meat Loaf. I would recommend it, to rent, for anyone who is just looking something a little different or a little underground.
Enjoy.
