THE COPPER KING EXPRESS TO HELL
Today we met the boys family in Anaconda to take a train ride from Anaconda to Butte. It was a little pricey but we thought it would be a really neat experience. WE WERE WRONG!!! DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES TAKE THIS RIDE, at least during the heat of summer. The only reason you might want to take this is to provide yourself with proof of the massive destruction that mining has done to that area. It looked like a bomb had gone off. IT WAS SO DEPRESSING and horrid. 4 hours of hell.

Good to hear you had an excellent time. Nothing like a train ride from the asshole of america to the armpit of america, all in an afternoon!
come on... where's all that great feminist insight of yours? more posts!
The Copper King Express train is a tourest train that has air conditioning on it and heat so in any weather it will be comfortable. The area inwhich the train runs thru is Anaconda/Butte area which was at one time the worlds largest copper mining communitys, they help build up both those area's and the United States. Sorry to here that you do not enjoy the history of our great nation, and cant see the beauty in the area as there is so much beauty in the canyon and the communitys around there, yes there is some area's that have little to know vegitation but that is being reclamed by the department of enviormental quality and is turning out to be as beautiful as it once was. The main thing to remember is everyone has there own opinion and your seems to be that you should cover up everything that is not nice to look at even if it help create this great nation
living in and loving Montana
Where do I begin? I'm a Montana native and haven't been 'in town' for awhile, so was looking forward to this train ride and the 'beauty' that we would view from inside while traveling.
A group of 14 of us boarded this train and every single one of us were hugely disappointed. The windows badly need to be replaced as it is almost impossible to see out of about 80% of them as they are foggy, cloudy and scratched.
The 'narrator' sounded as if she was reading from a script and was bored with the whole thing--I believe it was a young girl fulfilling her 'summer job requirement'--she was pathetic at best. The sound system was crackly, and scratchy so much of the time we listened to static rather than her voice.
The last time I checked, it was illegal for underage teen girls to serve alcohol, but not on this train. A BIG liability.
I've saved the best for last. This train ride was advertised as being beautiful--but it was anything but. There were a few pretty hillsides and trees--but this can be seen anywhere in Montana. We viewed slag piles full of garbage, soils that were of a very unnatural color (orange, green, white, etc.), ditto for little ponds of water. Much of the landscape is so full of poisons that nothing will grow. It was sickeningly full of devestation and the land is so void of life that we wondered what toxins exist.
We collectively spent $450 and all felt robbed and depressed afterwards. Please think twice before wasting your money--we sure wish we had.
